Showers/Water Not Getting Hot?
KITCHEN SINK:
- Make sure you are running the water at a full stream (our hot water heater is an on demand heater and if the stream of water isn't strong enough, it cyclces on and off)
- Make sure the faucet is turned to hot.
SHOWERS:
1st Step is ensure you're turning the handles the right direction. This can be confusing, here's a couple guides:
MASTER BATH:
GUEST BATH:
Other Troubleshooting:
- Check to see if other faucets are able to get hot water?
- The hot water heater is in the guest bath above the laundry.
- Does it appear to be on? (if not, let Kent know ASAP so he can get a maintenance person over there to check on it, or if you feel comfortable, you can check the breaker in the master bedroom. It is behind the tall picture next to the window in the master bedroom. All breakers are labeled.)
- Does it have any error messages on it? If so, be sure to let Kent know what they are.
- If it's still not working, reach out to Kent and he will get a plumber or maintenance person over to the cabin as soon as is possible.

Bluetooth Speakers (Sound Bar/Hot Tub/Record Player)
Quick guide — connect to the Bluetooth speakers
Good to know before you start
- Make sure your phone/tablet Bluetooth is ON.
- Keep your phone close to the speaker while pairing (some devices want you very close).
- If a device asks for a PIN, try 0000 (that’s standard for the deck speakers).
Fireplace Mantel Sound Bar — Polk Signa S2 (soundbar)
- Turn the soundbar on (power button on top or remote).
- Press the Bluetooth button (on top of the bar or on the remote) — the Bluetooth light will start blinking.
- On your phone: open Bluetooth settings and choose “Polk Signa S2” from the list.
- When the light turns solid, you’re connected — play music from your phone.
Quick fixes: If it won’t pair, turn Bluetooth off/on on your phone, select Forget for “Polk Signa S2” and try again, or power the soundbar off/on. Polk recommends keeping the source within ~10 m during use. (Manuals+)
Hot Tub Deck Outdoor Sound System — Pyle 6.5" wall-mount (PDWR62 series)
- The speakers are always on and ready to connect.
- Put your phone’s Bluetooth into discoverable mode and search for devices.
- Select “Pyle Audio” from the phone’s Bluetooth list.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000 (four zeros).
- Once connected, play music and control volume on your phone (and/or on the speaker).
(Pyle USA)
The Record player —
“Vintage Turntable” – Bluetooth pairing
To play music from your phone through the turntable’s speakers (Bluetooth input):
-
Power the turntable on (by turning the volume knob clockwise until it clicks).
-
Set the function selector to BT.
-
The Bluetooth indicator light should flash.
-
On your phone, open Bluetooth settings and choose “Vintage Turntable.”
-
Once the light goes solid, you’re connected—play audio from your phone.
Quick troubleshooting (all devices)
- No device shows up? Turn Bluetooth off/on on your phone, restart the speaker, and try again.
- Connected but audio won’t play? Make sure the correct input/source is selected on the speaker (e.g., Bluetooth vs. AUX).
- Still stuck? “Forget” the device on your phone and pair fresh. Manuals recommend re-starting both the speaker and your phone if pairing repeatedly fails. (Manuals+)
We Can't Find the Remote for the TV
We are sorry to hear this, but not to worry, you can simply download the Roku App (https://www.roku.com/mobile-app) and control the tv from your phone. Please be sure to communicate with us that the remote is lost so we can get a replacement ordered.
Thermostats (Set Temp/Troubleshoot)
There is one thermostat in our house located in the main living space. To set the thermostat:
- touch the display
- tap the main temperature in the middle
- scroll up or down to the desired temperature
- tap the temperature to set it
PLEASE only set the thermostat to the temperature that you would like it ultimatley set to (most people enjoy temps between 70-72 degrees).
It may take some time for the house to come to the temperature you have set if it has been empty prior to your arrival. If you are seeing the indoor temperature on the thermostat getting closer to the temperature you have set, everything is working properly and you will soon be comfortable and settling in!
Setting the thermostat to extreme temperatures will NOT speed up how quickly it cools or heats and may in fact damage the system and cause you to loose HVAC system cababilities.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us and we will assist.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If the thermostat is not allowing you to switch between heat/cool settings try removing the batteries to reset the thermostat. If this doesn't fix your issues, please contact us so we can get a service professional out to the property.
NOTE: The thermostats are locked to go no lower than 67 for AC and 72 for heat.
Kitchen & Bathroom (Bidet, Drinking Water, etc.)
Plumbing/Toilets
Our toilets are low flow toilets and cannot handle large amounts of toilet paper flushed at one time or any other products other than toilet paper (feminine products, personal wipes, etc.).
Using the Bidets
How to Use a Bidet:
- Sit on the toilet – Finish using the toilet as you normally would.
- Turn on the bidet – Turn the dial to start the water. Turn slowly and begin with the lowest pressure setting to avoid a surprise (the water will be a little cold)!
- Adjust the water flow – Gently adjust the pressure to what feels comfortable for you.
- Position yourself – You may need to adjust your position slightly to ensure proper cleaning.
- Clean yourself – Allow the water to do its job. The water should do most of the work, but there is toilet paper in case there is more work to be done ;).
- Dry off – Pat yourself dry with a bit of toilet paper.
Important Warnings:
- Do NOT turn on the bidet unless you're sitting on the toilet – It sprays water and will make a mess if no one is using it.
- Keep an eye on kids – Make sure children understand the bidet isn't a toy. Teach them not to touch the controls (we told our kids it was toilet water and they really don't want to mess with it - what we didn't tell them was that it's fresh water that ends in the toilet :)).
Letting your kids know the bidet is for cleaning and not playing can prevent some messy situations!
No Garbage Disposal
Our cabin is not equipped with a garbage disposal, please do not put food down the drain nor grease or oil of any kind. This can potentially lead to us having to call a maintenance crew in and causing unnecesary inconveince to your trip.
Drinking Water
Our house is equiped with a water well that feeds the property. This water is filtered, delicious, cool, and clean but may have a slightly different taste than you are used to, but it is perfectly safe to drink.
Missing Something?
Our kitchen has most everything you need, but if you are missing something you need, please reach out to us, we will either help get it or potentially reimburse you for the purchase of the item with proof of purchase.
Fire Extinguisher
There is a fire extinguisher located in the kitchen island cabinets. Please familiarize yourself with it's location and use in case of emergencies and fires.
If you use the fire extinguisher, please immediately contact emergency services if needed and then us at 502-209-9844.
Back Yard (Grill, Fire Pit, Etc)
Electric Grill
The electric grill on the back patio is simple to use.
- Uncover grill (put cover in a place where it will not get dirty)
- Plug in grill on outside wall
- Turn grill setting to 5
- Allow grill to heat up for approximately 10 minutes (for colder temps, allow longer)
- Clean grill grates with grill brush
- Grill your food (keep the lid shut to better retain heat)
- Check the grease trap under grill, if full, empty into trash can inside (NEVER down a drain)
After Grilling:
- Turn off burner
- Unplug the grill
- Allow to cool off
- Put cover back on
String Lights
The string lights on the bottom deck and the fire pit have two places they can be turned on and off*
- From the top deck towards the fire pit there is a small metal switch on the back of the cabin.
- From the lower deck there is a covered light switch on the fire pit side mounted on the brick wall.
*BE SURE THAT WHICH EVER SWITCH YOU USE TO TURN ON THE LIGHTS IS THE ONE YOU TURN THEM OFF FROM.
Fire Wood/Fire-Pit
Please use the firewood as needed. Be responsible with the fire-pit and please be aware of our neighboring cabins and the 10pm queit hours in our subdivision.
Fire Extinguisher
There is a fire extinguisher located in the kitchen under the sink. Please use in case of emergencies and fires.
If you use the fire extinguisher, please immediately contact emergency services if needed and then us at 502-209-9844

NOTE: if charging a Tesla you will need to bring an adapter.
To charge your vehicle, open the port door of your vehicle and plug the EV Charger gun into the port. You will see the charge light on the EV Charger switch to solid blue when it is connected to the vehicle. It will begin breathing blue as the vehicle charges. Additionally, most EV vehicles have indicator lights on the dashboard to let you know that you’re charging.
DO NOT attempt to drive your vehicle while the charge cable is connected to your vehicle.
Pack N Play & High Chair
There is a Pack N Play available to you free of charge. It can be found in the closet of the Master Bedroom. Please follow the pack-n-play-instructions for set up exactly as written. Damaging the pack-n-play will result in a damage fee equivalent to replacing it.

Hot Tub & Deck Usage
**Hot Tub Rules**
Hot Tub Guidelines & Rules: Relax & Enjoy Responsibly
Welcome to a key part of our outdoor experience! The hot tub on our high deck is designed for your relaxation, offering a perfect spot to unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. To keep it in top condition for everyone, here are a few simple guidelines:
- Children & Supervision
Please keep the hot tub cover on when not in use, especially with children on the deck. Kids under 12 should always be supervised in the hot tub area—the combination of water and a high deck makes caution essential for a safe experience. - Take Breaks & Enjoy
Enjoy your soak, but limit each session to 15-20 minutes. Extended exposure can lead to dizziness or heat stroke. Cool down and enjoy the view before re-entering. - Temperature Setting
For a safe, comfortable soak, keep the hot tub temperature below 104°F, as recommended by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. - No Glassware, Please
To prevent accidents, please use only plastic or shatterproof containers near the hot tub. Let’s keep this space safe for you and future guests. - Shower First for Water Quality
Please rinse off lotions, makeup, and hair products before entering to keep the water fresh. Skipping this step can quickly cause the water to become cloudy and affect the experience for everyone. Excessive cleaning due to this rule being overlooked may lead to deductions from the $300 deposit. - Enter Calmly, Exit Carefully
To prevent injury, avoid diving, jumping, or horseplay. The tub is shallower than it looks, so please enter and exit calmly. - Respect Occupancy Limits
Overcrowding the hot tub can strain its structure and filtration. Follow the occupancy limit to ensure everyone has a safe, comfortable soak. - Keep Electronics at a Distance
To reduce risk, please keep any electrical devices (like phones, speakers, or laptops) well away from the hot tub area. - Pregnancy Precaution
Pregnant guests are encouraged to check with a healthcare provider before using the hot tub, as elevated body temperatures can pose health risks. - Stay Hydrated
To enjoy your time fully, we recommend staying hydrated before and after hot tub use to prevent dehydration. - Swimwear Required
Please use only swimwear, as regular clothes may bring in detergents or contaminants that affect the water quality. - No Pets in the Hot Tub
For everyone’s comfort and safety, pets aren’t permitted in the hot tub. - Cover After Use
Please replace the hot tub cover after each use. This helps keep the water warm, keeps out debris, and acts as a safety measure. Leaving the cover off for extended periods may cause heat loss, impacting performance. - Respect for Neighbors
Enjoy the peace and beauty of the area, and please keep noise to a minimum, especially after 10pm.
Deposit Policy Reminder
Our goal is for you to have a fantastic, stress-free stay. In the event of excessive cleaning or damage due to breaking the guidelines, however, we may deduct from the $300 deposit.
Hot Tub Cover Holder
Our hot tube is fitted with a very simple hot tub cover lifter. Here's how to use it:
- Make sure the arms of the hot tub cover holder are lifted up where it looks like the cover could slide into them.
- Fold the cover in half towards the arms
- Push the entire cover into the arms
- Either leave it like that, or you can push the arms down towards the ground and they will lower and hold in the down position to give you clear access to the control panel and view.
Leafs on the Deck - The Leaf Blower
Our cleaners blow off/clean off the deck and swinging bed after each guest leaves in preperation for our next guests, but sometimes the forest doesn't like to play along. If you need at any time during your stay to use our leaf blower, you should be able to find it in one of the deck boxes on the lower deck.
The Swinging Bed
While the bed can technially hold a lot of weight, it's our recommendation that no more than 4 average size adults get on the bed at one time.
Absolutely no rough housing or extreme swinging on the bed - it should never get close to hitting the wall or rail.

Top 10 Hikes
Note: Some of these hikes are a combination of two or more smaller hikes from the same area. Unmarked trails may require map and navigation skills. We recommend downloading the Alltrails app to assist while hiking.
1. Indian Staircase and Indian Arch
One of the most beautiful views in the gorge. The staircase is a pretty scary rock scramble, if you struggle with heights - consider a different hike, or use our VIP hack and go up the trail backward, see the view, watch everyone else be crazy, and then go back down the way you came
-
Distance: 3.5 miles

Type: Unmarked
-
Difficulty: Difficult
2. Whittleton Arch
Fun and easy hike with a beautiful view at the end. It’s out and back

3. Double Arch, Star Gap Arch, Arch of Triumph

4. Gray’s Arch
Great hike, just be ware it has what our family calls the “Stairs of Dispair” - a set of stairs that are pretty intense if you are not in great physical shape. You can do it, but just plan on it taking some time.

Distance: 4.0 miles

5. Auxier Ridge & Courthouse Rock
There is a loop for Auxier Ridge, but we prefer just to go out and back. The loop takes you down into the forest and there's really nothing much to see after Auxier. This is Jenni’s favorite hike 🙂

The Natural Bridge is a beautiful view and hike - it is a bit more challenging from a fitness perspective because it’s more straight up than other hikes in the area, so be prepared - be sure to go over to the overlook and follow around to Lovers Leap

9. Rock Bridge w/Creation Falls Loop
We love doing Rock Bridge - which also leads to Creation Falls. Creation Falls is a fantastic place to stop for a picnic and let kids play in the water. When doing the loop, we prefer to go counter clock-wise as it seems to be an easier ascent back up at the end of the hike

10. Chimney Top Rock, Princess Arch, & Half Moon Arch

Copperas Falls (unofficial trail - with low creek water crossings - water shoes recommended) massive cave with waterfall and pool underneath
Since this is an unofficial trail, there is no marker for the trail head. If you search Google maps for the Copperas falls trailhead, however, it will take you to the right place. You can either park in the Eagle Point Butress Parking lot or park along KY-715 northwest of the Eagle Point Parking lot. The trailhead is located along the north side of the road, across from the river, in a relatively flat area just east of the creek itself. I think the easiest way to identify it is to look at the mountain - when standing towards the hill (there is a parking area w/restrooms on the right - also a bridge) - the trail for Copperas Falls goes on the left side of the mountain. Follow the Creek up ravine, criss crossing where needed until you reach the falls.

- Download the App: Install the AllTrails app on your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play.

- Download Maps: Before you head out, navigate to the trail map you want to use while you still have service. You can download the map for offline use, which is handy since cell service can be spotty in the gorge.
- On the Trail: While you're hiking, you can use the app to track your progress and see where you are on the map.
Additionally, consider stopping by the Visitor Center at the Slade exit. The staff there can provide valuable information on trail conditions, maps, and recommendations.

Q: What kind of wildlife might I encounter at the Gorge?
A: When visiting the Red River Gorge, you can expect to see a variety of wildlife and insects. Common wildlife includes deer, raccoons, and various bird species, including hawks and owls. As for insects, you might come across ants, beetles, butterflies, and occasionally mosquitoes, especially during warmer months. It’s important to be mindful of your surroundings and keep food securely stored to avoid attracting wildlife. Remember, observing wildlife from a distance is the best way to appreciate these beautiful creatures!
Q: Is it normal to encounter bugs inside?
A: Yes, it is normal to encounter bugs in a forested area like ours. We do our best to keep them out of the cabin by having regular pest control treatments. However, given the natural setting, it’s possible that you might still come across an insect from time to time. If you do notice any bugs during your stay, please let us know right away. We’ll arrange for our pest control service to address the issue promptly. Your comfort and peace of mind are our top priorities!
Q: Are there bears in the area, and should we be worried?
A: Yes, there are bears in the Red River Gorge and surrounding areas, as it is part of their natural habitat. However, bear encounters are extremely rare, and they typically avoid humans. It's important to take some precautions while enjoying the outdoors, such as keeping food secured, avoiding leaving trash outside, and making noise while hiking to alert bears of your presence. If you do happen to see a bear, it's best to remain calm, back away slowly, and avoid direct eye contact. Bears generally want to avoid human interaction as much as we want to avoid them. Being aware of your surroundings and following these simple guidelines can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience in this beautiful area!
Weather in Red River Gorge: What to Expect Year-Round
Here's what to expect from the weather based on the season:
Spring (March – May)
- Weather: Springtime in the gorge is a mixed bag. Temperatures can range from cool mornings in the 40s to warmer afternoons in the 70s. This season also brings rain, with March and April seeing more frequent showers, so be prepared for muddy trails.
- What to Pack: Layered clothing is key. Bring a waterproof jacket and good hiking shoes with grip for the occasional muddy conditions.
- Pro Tip: Wildflowers start blooming in late April, making it a beautiful time for hikes like Indian Creek Trail (#626) and Whittleton Arch Trail (#217).
Summer (June – August)
- Weather: Summers are warm and humid, with temperatures averaging between 70°F to 90°F. July tends to be the hottest month, and the gorge can feel quite muggy, especially on the lower trails. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so watch the forecast.
- What to Pack: Lightweight, breathable clothing and plenty of water are essential. Sunscreen and bug spray are your best friends. Afternoon storms can pop up, so a packable rain jacket is useful.
- Pro Tip: Try early morning hikes to beat the heat and humidity. The Gorge Underground is a great summer activity because it's cool inside the mine, even on the hottest days.
Fall (September – November)
- Weather: Fall is one of the most popular seasons at the gorge, with cool, crisp mornings in the 50s and 60s, and daytime highs ranging from 60°F to 75°F. October brings stunning fall foliage, especially around Auxier Ridge and Sky Bridge.
- What to Pack: A mix of layers—start with a light jacket or fleece in the morning and shed layers as it warms up. Don't forget a hat or sunglasses, as the sun can still be strong during the day.
- Pro Tip: Fall is perfect for photographing the vibrant colors. For sunset views, Chimney Top Trail (#235) is a great choice.
Winter (December – February)
- Weather: Winter in Red River Gorge is generally mild, though temperatures can drop into the 30s and 40s. Snow is rare but possible, especially in January and February. Some trails can become icy, so proceed with caution if you plan to hike.
- What to Pack: Warm layers, gloves, and a hat are important for winter hikes. If there's snow or ice, crampons or microspikes may be helpful for traction.
- Pro Tip: Winter offers solitude as the crowds thin out, and the bare trees open up new views of the landscape. Try Gray's Arch for a peaceful winter hike.
Q: What should I do if snow or ice is in the forecast for my stay at the cabin?
A: Our cabin is nestled in a beautiful area with steep terrain, including a concrete drive that can become hazardous in snowy or icy conditions. Here’s what you need to know to stay safe:
- Driving Conditions: If snow or ice is predicted, the driveway could be difficult to navigate. We highly recommend bringing a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle with good tires for safer travel. If you don’t have access to one, you may want to park at the bottom of the drive (there is a small access at the bottom of our property to the right of the drive as you are going uphill) and walk up to the cabin.
- Safety First: We advise guests to use extreme caution, especially if conditions worsen during your stay. Please check the weather before leaving the cabin if the forecast is bad, it is next to impossible to get up the hill in snow and icy conditions. Be sure to keep a shovel and ice melt handy.
- Airbnb's Policy on Weather: In the event of severe weather, including snowstorms or icy roads, Airbnb’s standard cancellation policy applies. However, we understand that safety is a priority, so if dangerous conditions make travel impossible or unsafe, please reach out to us. Depending on the situation, we may be able to work with you to reschedule your stay or discuss other options.
- Flexible Planning: If you have any concerns about the weather leading up to your stay, feel free to contact us in advance. We want to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable visit, so we’re happy to discuss the forecast and any precautions you should take.
Q: What should we know about visiting the Red River Gorge in the winter?
A: Visiting the gorge in winter can be a beautiful experience, but it’s important to be aware that things slow down during this season. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
- Reduced Business Hours: Many businesses in the area adjust their hours or close for the season. Before heading out, it's a good idea to check the websites of the places you plan to visit for their current hours of operation.
- Trail Access: The U.S. Forest Service typically closes all gravel roads during the winter months. This means that many trailheads can become inaccessible without a significant walk on the road. While roads are not closed until substantial snow or bad weather occurs, it's wise to be prepared for possible access issues.
- Check Conditions: Always check the weather forecast and trail conditions before you head out. Some trails may be more challenging or unsafe during winter weather.
- Visitor Center: Stopping by the Visitor Center at the Slade exit is a great way to gather up-to-date information about trail conditions, road accessibility, and recommendations for winter hikes. The staff there can provide valuable insights to help you plan your adventure safely.
By taking these precautions, you can enjoy the winter beauty of the Red River Gorge while staying safe and informed!
